In 1916 a grouping of community leaders established what would function i of the oldest in addition to largest race relations agencies inwards the country. The organization was founded to assist African Americans migrating from the South to Chicago during the Great Migration. It helped the novel residents alongside services inwards housing in addition to exercise matters.

In cooperation alongside 7 other offices around the city, the Chicago Urban League was instrumental alongside stabilizing the African American community afterward the Chicago Race Riots of 1919.
As i of the showtime institutions to create sociological studies of the community, it became the forerunner inwards reporting of import findings inwards the expanse of race relations, project relations, in addition to juvenile delinquency. It is the oldest in addition to largest of the 113 National Urban League affiliations across the country.
The Chicago Urban League occupied the Swift mansion shown higher upward for years. Its offices are forthwith located adjacent door to its historic residence, a modern multi-level purpose facility at 4510 S. Michigan Avenue inwards Chicago.
